
On the line, a decal has to fuse clean—no blistering—and the glass can’t crack under thermal stress. When heat arrives late or isn’t even, rejects pile up fast: edge waves in tempering, weak adhesion in lamination, and haze in coating drying. We built these glass decal firing heaters to hit the temperature profile you need, cycle after cycle. What matters under the hood We spec short-wave infrared (SWIR) quartz elements because they respond fast and give tight control. The radiant field heats the decal and the surface quickly while keeping bulk heating down, so the thermal shock window is easier to manage. Typical units run 230–460 V, 3–12 kW per module, and the footprint is compact enough for retrofit bays and OEM frames. Control is PID with SSR output, and we can match thermocouple options to glass processes. Expect repeatable uniformity across the target zone—non-uniform heat shows up as stress fractures and adhesion that drifts. Why it plays in glass In hot bending, the heater brings the glass into the forming window fast, cutting cycle time and tightening up sag. In tempering, preheating reduces the quench shock, improving optical quality and lowering breakage. In EVA/SGP/PVB lamination, it pushes the adhesive through the cure curve without overshoot, so bubbles are minimized and peel strength stays consistent. For coating drying, it pulls solvent quickly while keeping the film level—no orange peel, no haze. Energy use drops because SWIR energy is absorbed directly, and modules can be sized to the actual dwell, not just the line length. The setup details that bite These units are line-fit, but clearances matter. Match mounting dimensions, airflow direction, and terminal box orientation to your machine. Keep the radiant path clear—fixtures in the beam cast shadows and create hot spots. Protect the quartz from contact and contamination; oil and dust on the tube skew emissivity and throw temperature off.
