When we’re putting together a 1500W infrared heater for a bathroom or a gazebo, the heat is the easy part. The real headache? The light. Most high-power lamps blast out a glare that feels like staring into the sun. It’s harsh. It’s uncomfortable. And if you’ve got a baby in the room, it’s just too much for their eyes.
Taming the glare
Standard short-wave lamps are basically blinding. To fix that, we use specific coatings and filament materials that act like a filter. Instead of that piercing white light, we push the energy into the mid-wave or long-wave infrared range. You still get that cozy, deep warmth—even in a breezy gazebo—but the light stays soft. It’s a simple bit of physics: we dial down the visible light and keep the heat.
Getting the power right
We go with 1500W because you need some real muscle to fight off a cold draft in a semi-outdoor space. We mount these in the ceiling so the heat rains down on you. Just a heads-up on the electrical side: these pull a lot of power. Make sure your wiring can handle a constant load. If you’re hooking up a few of these to one circuit, double-check your breaker. There’s nothing worse than the power cutting out the second the heaters hit full blast.
The trade-off
Here’s the thing: this “soft light” tech isn’t magic. There’s a small catch. Because we’re filtering the light, the lamp takes a few extra seconds to get up to temperature. It’s not that instant “snap” you get from a raw halogen tube. But honestly? It’s a trade we’re happy to make. I’d much rather wait three seconds for the heat than deal with a blinding glare. We also shape the reflectors to point the heat straight down. That way, the warmth actually hits you instead of just heating up your ceiling.
