
Cutting through ultra-thick glass is basically a street fight. If you try to score a cold, thick slab, your cutting wheel is going to take a beating. You’ll burn through your tools in record time, and you’ll likely end up with jagged, ugly edges that you’ll just have to spend hours fixing. We found a better way. Instead of forcing the wheel to do all the heavy lifting, we use high-penetration quartz infrared lamps to soften the glass right where the cut is about to happen. Here’s the thing: most heaters just warm up the surface. That doesn’t do much for thick glass. To actually get inside the material, you need short-wave infrared radiation. We use high-purity quartz tubes that push energy deep into the glass rather than letting it bounce off the top. It basically relaxes the glass, lowering the internal tension just enough so the material stops fighting back. And your tools will thank you. When the glass is pre-heated, that tungsten carbide or diamond wheel doesn’t have to grind through a frozen block of hardness. It just glides. Less friction, less stress, and way fewer those annoying moments where you have to stop everything to swap out a dead wheel. But look, this isn’t just “plug and play.” There’s a bit of a balancing act involved. If the lamp is too close, you’ll shock the glass and it’ll crack right in your face. Too far, and you’re back to squaring off against cold glass. You have to get the lamp’s speed perfectly synced with the cutting head to keep that heat zone consistent. Plus, these lamps put out a massive amount of heat. If you don’t have a cooling system that can actually handle the buildup around the housing, you’re going to end up melting your own wiring. It takes a bit of tuning, but once it’s dialed in? It’s a completely different experience.
